2016-10-29

Bagmati, Nuwakot, Meghang

A 22-year-old woman of Gayarsingh, Shuklagandaki-8 of Tanahun district is recuperating at the Damauli Hospital in Tanahun district. “We have stitched her head and plastered her broken left hand,” Senior Auxiliary Nurse Midwife at Damauli Hospital Maya Khadka said. The woman has survived a murder attempt from her husband. “On October 28, he said he would take me to the Kathmandu after staying a night at a Narayangadh hotel,” said the victim wiping her wet eyes. “But, I was taken to Kingtang, a remote village in Nuwakot , beaten brutally and thrown off a cliff to die.” Two men, including her husband and a friend, had beaten her together and thrown off the cliff. She was rescued after three children on their way for fishing spotted her injured on October 30. In June, the husband had reportedly told some people that he would divorce her and give her Rs 500,000 as compensation. But later, he changed his mind as he did not want to lose the money. The domestic violence victim said from the hospital bed that the man was angry with her after other family members complained a lot about her while he was abroad. She had a miscarriage in the 2015 earthquake and it further made him furious towards him, she added. She is being treated free of cost and being provided with free meals, said the District Health Office Chief Dr Pawan Jung Rayamajhi. Dhading police, meanwhile, have detained both the suspects and furthered their investigation.
