Dr KC’s hunger strike: Jajarkot medics halt health service

2016-12-01

Health workers in Jajarkot have halted their works to show their solidarity with Dr Govinda KC, who is staging a hunger-strike at the Capital's Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital demanding reforms in the medical education and health sectors. Health services, except for emergency, have been brought to a complete halt in all health institutions in the district. Dr Chandani Jaisawal of Jajarkot Hospital said that they started the protest because the concerned authorities do not seem serious about addressing the demands of Dr KC, who has been on a death fast for the last 18 days. A group of youths in Jhapa have also started a hunger protest at Kakadbhitta to show their support to Dr KC. They have demanded the government to end the anomalies in the medical sector like Dr KC has demanded. In Kavre, students, professors and staff of Kathmandu University (KU) have also expressed their solidarity with Dr KC. Bedmani Dahal, chairman of the KU Professors’ Association, said they stand with Dr KC whose cause is also to reform the KU.
