Protesting the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) executive monopoly in the distribution of new membership, Nepal Press Union – a trade union of democratic media workers – has padlocked the central office of FNJ. A team of office bearers and members headed by NPU President Badri Sigdel on Monday padlocked the FNJ central office for an indefinite period. Citing that there is no environment to conduct district-level elections set to kick off on February 14, the NPU has also called on all journalists not to cooperate to the orchestration of 'drama' in the name of the convention. In course of padlocking the office, President Sigdel expressed his confidence that the FNJ leadership would come to a dialogue to resolve the dispute but warned that it would otherwise lead the situation to further complexity. He informed that their protest is to prevent the danger of making the FNJ a sister organisation of any political party and to pile pressure to develop this as a common organisation owned by all journalists. On the occasion, NPU general secretary Ajaya Babu Shivakoti said that they were compelled to padlock the FNJ office for the leadership's ignorance towards NPU's urge not to enrol membership of cadres of certain political parties as FNJ members. Shivakoti accused the current leadership of FNJ of making ill efforts to institutionally capture the federation and prevent the differing voices from coming to FNJ leadership by adding around 3,000 new members against the established rule. NPU has said the FNJ's irregularities in distributing its membership in over 40 chapters across the country were intolerable. नेपाल पत्रकार महासंघले नया सदस्यता वितरणमा एकलौटी गरेको भन्दै नेपाल प्रेस युनियनले महासंघको केन्द्रिय कार्यालयमा तालाबन्दी गरेको छ। युनियनका अध्यक्ष बद्री सिग्देलको नेतृत्वमा पदाधिकारी तथा सदस्यसहितको टोलीले सोमबार महासंघको केन्द्रीय कार्यालयमा अनिश्चितकालिन तालाबन्दी गरेको हो। युनियनले मंगलबार फागुन ३ गतेदेखि महासंघका जिल्ला अधिवेशन हुने वातावरण तयार नभएकाले सबै पत्रकारलाई अधिवेशनका नाममा हुने नाटक मंचंलाई असहयोग गर्न पनि आह्वाहन गरेको छ। ताला लगाउने क्रममा अध्यक्ष सिग्देलले अझै पनि महासंघको नेतृत्वले वार्तामा आएर सदस्यता विवाद विषयको हल खोज्नेछ भन्ने विश्वास व्यक्त गर्दै आन्यथा महासंघको परिस्थिती अझ जटिल मोडमा जाने चेतावनी दिए। उनले महासंघलाई कुनै अमुक दल विशेषको भात्रि संस्थाका रुपमा लैजाने खतराबाट महासंघको साझा चरित्रलाई बचाउन बाध्य भएर तालाबन्दी गर्नुपरेको जानकारी गराए। कार्यक्रममा युनियनका महासचिव अजयबाबु शिवाकोटीले महासंघले विधि, प्रक्रिया र अभ्यासलाई लात्याएर दल बिशेषका कार्यकर्तालाई सदस्यता दिने र नविकरण गर्ने गरेको कामप्रति युनियनले अवगत गराउंदा गराउँदा पनि त्यसलाई बेवास्ता गरेकाका करण बाध्य भएर तालाबन्दी गर्नुपरेको करण बाध्य भएर तालाबन्दी गर्नुपरेको बताए। केन्द्रबाटै मनपरी सदस्य थप्ने काम हुँदा करिब तिन हजार नयाँ सदस्यता थपी संस्थागत रुपमा महासंघलाई कब्जा गर्ने र फरक विचार राख्नेलाई सदासर्वदा उछ नेतृत्व उघ भएको महासचिव शिवाकोटीको भनाइ छ।
