Activists rescued women locked in a room for four years in Sunsari

A team of rights activists of the district have rescued 27 years old Jharana Chaudhary of Itahari sub-metropolis-6 on May 30 who was locked inside her room for the past four years. A team of representatives from INSEC, NHRC, Human rights network, Sunsari and KOKAN have rescued the woman on May 30. She is undergoing treatment at one-door emergency management centre under District Hospital. The woman who had lost her mental stability was locked in a mudded room after her mental state did not improve. A team including INSEC eastern regional coordinator Som Raj Thapa, Jhankar Rawal regional director of NHRC, Manjita Upadhyaya of KOKAN and Ramesh Bhattarai, coordinator of human rights network of the district had rescued the woman. She was rescued in coordination with Women and Children Office under District Police Office after getting information that she has been locked inside the room for almost four years according to coordinator Kamal Koirala of Human Rights Network, Sunsari. The victim was locked inside the room like an animal despite providing her treatment according to INSEC regional coordinator Som Raj Thapa. An initiation for her further treatment has been taken according to Thapa. The victim has one brother and one sister only and her brother is in a foreign land. He sister is married and she is living by the food provided by the neighbours.
