Journalists stage demonstration in Birgunj

Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Parsa district chapter on Friday staged a demonstration condemning an attack on journalist Anup Tiwari in Birgunj. FNJ Parsa Vice President Tiwari was physically attacked while having lunch in Chapkaiya of Birgunj on June 5. FNJ Parsa has demanded immediate investigation and actions against those responsible. Protesting against the incident, a rally was held and encircled different places including Ghantaghar, Mahavirsthan, Aadarshanagar, Mina Bazaar before turning into a corner meeting today morning. Addressing the meeting, FNJ President Shyam Banjara condemned the attack on journalist Tiwari for writing news. He added that the journalists were compelled to stage protest as the police administration did not address their appeals for investigating into the case. A written application has been submitted urging police to take action against Sujit Giri, Ejajbabu Ranki and Krishna Chaurasiya for allegedly thrashing Tiwari. FNJ Parsa complained that the perpetrators were not nabbed even after four days of the incident. Banjara informed that the FNJ, the Press Chautari Nepal and the Press Union among other organisations were planning to come up with various protests including hunger strike.
