[Updated] Senior orthopedic surgeon Dr. Govinda has started his hunger strike for the 11th time demanding reforms in medical education sector including edorsement of Medical Education Bill and sacking of some Tribhuvan University office bearers. Crusader of reforms in the medical education sector, Dr KC announced his hunger strike on Monday reading a statement in front of media persons at the lobby of the third story of the ENT building of the TU Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj. The government had urged KC not to stage hunger strike saying that it was initiating the process to fulfill his demands. Women Children and Social Welfare Parliamentary Committee has called a meeting to dwell on KC’s demands at 3 pm tomorrow. मेडिकल क्षेत्र सुधारका लागि प्रयासरत डा.गोविन्द केसीले चिकित्सा शिक्षा ऐन पारित र त्रिवि पदाधिकारी बर्खास्त गर्नु पर्नेसहितका माग राखेर अनसन सुरु गरेका छन्। महाराजगन्जस्थित त्रिवि शिक्षण अस्पतालको इएनटी बिल्डिङ, तेस्रो तला लबीमा भेला भएका सञ्चारकर्मीबीच आफ्ना माग पढेर सुनाउँदै उनले अनसन थालेका हुन्। मेडिकल माफियाविरुद्ध संघर्षरत उनको यो ११ औं अनसन हो। सरकारले दुई दिन अगाडि डा.केसीलाई पत्र पठाउँदै माग पूरा गर्ने प्रक्रिय रहेको हुँदा अनसन नबस्न आग्रह गरेको थियो। डा.केसीका मागसहितका विषयमा छलफल गर्न संसदको महिला बालबालिका तथा समाजकल्याण समितिले भोलि मंगलबार ३ बजेलाई बोलाएको छ। आज बिहान पूर्वस्वस्थ्यमन्त्री गगन थापासहित त्रिवि उपकूलपति तीर्थ खनियाँ र केसी पक्षीय चिकित्सकहरुको बैठक गरी समाधान खोज्ने प्रयास भएको थियो। त्यही बैठकमा गरेको प्रतिबद्धताअनुसार त्रिविले सोमबार दिउँसो आइओएममा क्याम्पस प्रमुखलगायतका रिक्त पदाधिकारीको नियुक्ति गरेको थियो। सो क्रममा त्रिविले आइओएमको खोसिएको भनिएको अधिकार आइओएमको प्रस्ताव आधारमा फिर्ता गर्ने बचनसमेत उपकुलपति खनियाँले दिएका थिए। गत वैशाखमा त्रिविले नियमावली संशोधन गरी शुल्क र सिट निर्धारणको अधिकार आइओएमबाट खोसेको थियो। डा.केसीले भने राजनीतिज्ञ तथा त्रिवि पदाधिकारीहरुको बोली र व्यवहारको ठेगान नभएको भन्दै सर्वसाधारणलाई आफूले उठाएका मुद्दामा साथ दिएर अघि बढ्न अनसनको विकल्प नभएको उल्लेख गरेका छन्। उनको ११ औं अनसनको मुख्य माग चिकित्सा शिक्षा ऐन पारित र त्रिवि पदाधिकारी बर्खास्त रहेका छन्। Update..... Dr Govinda KC, who has been staging indefinite hunger strike for the past 23 days at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, ended his fast on the 23rd day on Tuesday according to RSS source. He warned that he would stage another hunger strike if the government did not address his demands at the earliest. The senior orthopaedic surgeon ended his hunger strike by organising a press conference in the premises of TUTH this evening. Issuing a statement, Dr KC said that he decided to end his hunger strike in view of the ongoing crisis triggered by floods and landslides in different parts of the nation. Dr KC said that although the government fulfilled some of his demands, the major task of endorsing Health Profession Education Bill by incorporating recommendations made by a team of experts under Kedar Bhakta Mathema, is yet to be addressed. “Our fight for endorsing the act will continue and I will promptly sit for another hunger strike if attempts are made to curb or alter the bill for the vested interests,” read the statement. Dr KC said that his crusade for disseminating quality health service in affordable price and decentralisation of health services to all the citizens of the country will continue till those demands are met. Dr KC also expressed grief over the politicians trying to endorse an act in contrary to his demands and asserted of continuing the struggle till the people’s representatives themselves take the responsibility of reforming the country’s medical sector. He began his 11th fast-unto-death on July 24 demanding reforms in medical education sector including implementation of the recommendations made by a team of experts under Kedar Bhakta Mathema, endorsement of the Health Profession Education (HPE) Bill, end of irregularities in medical sector, improve the conditions of hospitals under TU Institute of Medicine.
