Locals of Chedgaun Municipality of Jajarkot district have protested against a possible change in municipality center at Manghat.
Locals of wards 1, 2, 3, 12 and 13 have been protesting against the decision to change the Manghat center to Thalha Bazaar for the past two days. Local Jaya Bahadur Karki said they were protesting against the possible change in municipal center by a special municipal assembly.
The Nepal Gazette had fixed the municipality center at Manghat and day-to-day works of Banda Chedagad Municipality are also conducted from the same center.
Locals have padlocked municipality office and also shut down market areas and schools. They have also cut down trees to obstruct vehicular movement. Common life has been affected and hundreds of students are deprived of education due to schools' closure.
Municipality Chairperson and UML leader Lal Bahadur Mahatara said the decision to fix the municipality center will be taken by the municipal assembly. He said the current center at Manghat was geographically unsuitable and stressed on the need to make the center accessible for all.
Meanwhile, Municipality Vice Chairperson Sarita Oli, elected from Nepali Congress, has been lobbying against the change of center from Manghat.
