The Nepal Students Union (NSU), the student wing of the Nepali Congress, Friday staged demonstrations in the capital demanding the relocation of the Balaju-based Nepal Gas Company, a cooking gas refilling plant away from human settlements. They with the support of the locals protested in front of the Balaju Industrial Zone in the capital while picking up a reference to an explosion of a gas refilling plant in Birgunj recently in which two persons were killed and many others were injured. NSU’s General Secretary Kundan Raj Kafle, a protestor, asked the concerned authorities to take initiatives to move the gas refilling plant elsewhere away from human settlement. “People were burnt alive in an explosion of a gas refilling plant in Birgunj. Our initiatives are to make concerned authorities alert and avoid such incident,” he said. Likewise, another agitator Debendra Pathak, chairman of the Nepali Congress ward 16, said as part of their drive, they would start a signature campaign from tomorrow. The central member of the NSU Sushil Bhatta warned of a series-wise protest if their demand is ignored. नेपाल विद्यार्थी संघले नेपाल ग्यास उद्योगलाई बस्तीबाट टाढा लगेर सञ्चालन गर्न माग गर्दै प्रदर्शन गरेको छ । विरगञ्जमा ग्यास उद्योगमा भएको आगालागीमा परी धेरै जनधनको क्षति भएको भन्दै त्यो घटनाबाट पाठ सिकेर बस्तीबाट टाढा लगेर ग्यास उद्योग सञ्चालन गर्नुपर्ने माग गर्दै नेविसंघले आज बालाजु औद्योगिक क्षेत्र अगाडि प्रदर्शन गरेको हो । प्रदर्शनमा नेविसंघका महामन्त्री कुन्दनराज काफ्लेले नियम, कानूनभन्दा बाहिर खोलिएका उद्योगलाई बस्तीबाट टाढा लगेर सञ्चालन गर्न आग्रह गरेका छन् । “वीरगञ्जमा मानिस जिउँदै जलिरहेको छ, त्यस्तो भयानक दृश्य यहाँ देख्न नपरोस् भन्ने उद्देश्यले हामीले खबरदारी गरेका हौँ,” – उनले भने । उनले बालाजु औद्योगिक क्षेत्रभित्र रहेको इञ्जिनियरिङ कलेज, सिद्धार्थ वनस्थली इन्टिच्युटलगायतका थुप्रै विद्यालय औद्योगिक क्षेत्रको वरपर सञ्चालन छन्, त्यी विद्यार्थीको सुरक्षाका लागि आन्दोलन गर्नुपरेको बताए । काठमाडौँ महानगरपालिकाका–१६ का अध्यक्ष मुकुन्द रिजालले धेरै विद्यालय र बस्ती भएको बालाजु क्षेत्रको बीचमा उद्योग सञ्चालन भएको भन्दै यसलाई तत्काल हटाउनका लागि वडावासीले पटकपटक माग गरिसकेको बताए । “उद्योग हटाउनका लागि वडाले पाँच महिना पहिले आपूर्ति, उद्योग र वातावरण मन्त्रालयलाई पत्राचार समेत गर्यो, अहिलेसम्म सुनुवाइ हुन सकेन,” – उनले भने । नेपाली काँग्रेस वडा नं १६ का अध्यक्ष देवेन्द्र पाठकले ग्यास उद्योग हटाउनका लागि भोलिदेखि नै हस्ताक्षर अभियान शुरु गर्ने बताए । “टोलवासीले पटकपटक खबरदारी गर्दा पनि सुनुवाइ भएको थिएन, आज नेविसंघले साथ दिएको छ,” – उनले भने । नेविसंघका केन्द्रीय सदस्य एवं सोही क्षेत्रका बासिन्दा सुशील भट्टले आफूले राखेको माग सुनुवाइ नभए चरणबद्ध रुपमा आन्दोलन गर्ने बताउनुभयो । “हामी सरोकारवालासँग छलफल, ज्ञापनपत्र बुझाउने कार्यक्रम गर्छौं, यदि हाम्रो माग सुनुवाइ भएन भने सडक आन्दोलनमा जान्छौँ,” – उहाँले भन्नुभयो । कार्यक्रममा स्थानीयवासी र विद्यार्थीको उपस्थिति रहेको थियो ।
