Agitating Dhankuta denizens, who are on a war path demanding that Dhankuta be declared provincial capital of Province 1, padlocked the Eastern Regional Administration Office today in order to exert pressure on the government for the same. However, the officials at the office unlocked the office after 20 minutes and resumed everyday business. Parliamentary member Rajendra Kumar Rai-led agitating team had padlocked the office taking the deputy regional administrator Sewanta Dahal and other staffers out, as per regional administrator Rajeshwor Man Singh. It has been 21 days since the district dwellers launched a general strike along with demonstrations demanding that Dhankuta be declared the provincial capital. Vehicular movement along the Dharan-Dhankuta road section came to a grinding halt from yesterday, which has adversely affected life in the hilly districts including Terhathum, Sankhuwasabha and Bhojpur. Hundreds of vehicles and passengers have been stranded along the road after the bandh enforcers burnt tyres. They have not allowed movement of very sensitive vehicles such as ambulances, press, educational institutions, dairies and vehicles carrying vegetables, among others. The agitating district folks have argued that as Dhankuta was the regional headquarters of the east, it had all necessary infrastructure besides land and was suitable for being the provincial capital as well. प्रदेश राजधानी माग गर्दै पूर्वाञ्चल क्षेत्रीय प्रशासन कार्यालयमा आन्दोलित धनकुटावासीले बिहीबार ताला लगाएका छन् । विभिन्न विरोध कार्यक्रमसहित स्थानीयले दोस्रो दिन पनि आमहडताल जारी राखे । हडतालले सबै क्षेत्र ठप्प छ । रदेश १ को राजधानी माग गर्दै एक महिनादेखि आन्दोलित धनकुटावासीले आन्दोलनलाई थप सशक्त पार्दै गएका छन् । यसैक्रममा जिल्लामा दुई दिनदेखि आमहडताल आहान गरिएको छ । कोसी राजमार्गको धरान(धनकुटा खण्ड ठप्प छ । बिहानैदेखि बन्दकर्ताले धनकुटाको जिरो प्वाइन्ट, देब्रेबास, आत्मारा ढाट, कागते, निगालेलगायत स्थानमा प्रदर्शन गरे । धनकुटाबाट चल्ने सबै सवारी बाहिर जान सकेनन् । बजार, पसल, कलकारखाना ठप्प रहे । माग पूरा गर्न बेवास्ता गरिएको भन्दै आन्दोलनलाई थप सशक्त पारिने आन्दोलन परिचालन समिति संयोजक सुन्दरबाबु श्रेष्ठले बताए । राणाकालदेखि हालसम्म मुख्य प्रशासनिक थलोका रूपमा रहेको धनकुटामा पर्याप्त भौतिक पूर्वाधार रहे पनि उपेक्षा गरिएको उनीहरूको भनाइ छ । यसैबीच आन्दोलनकारीले पूर्वाञ्चल क्षेत्रीय प्रशासन कार्यालयमा ताला लगाएका छन् । सहरी विकास डिभिजन कार्यालयमा ढुंगा प्रहार गरिएको थियो । आन्दोलनकारी काठमाडौंतिर धरान– प्रदेश १ को राजधानी बनाउन माग गर्दै उपमहानगर उपप्रमुख मञ्जु भण्डारी सुवेदीको नेतृत्वमा काठमाडांै पुगेको सर्वपक्षीय प्रतिनिधिमण्डलले प्रधानमन्त्रीलाई ज्ञापनपत्र बुझाएको छ । प्रधानमन्त्री शेरबहादुर देउवालाई बालुटारमा भेटेर प्रतिनिधिमण्डलले पत्र दिएको हो । राजधानीका लागि धरानको भौतिक पूर्वाधार, पर्यावरण, ऐतिहासिकता, पहिचान, प्रदेशवासी नागरिकको सहज आवगमन र तत्काल कार्यालय सञ्चालनका लागि सुविधा सम्पन्न भवन रहेको टोलीले प्रधानमन्त्रीलाई जानकारी गराएको छ । भण्डारीका अनुसार प्रधानमन्त्रीले सर्वदलीय सहमति खोज्न आफूले बैठक आहान गर्ने आश्वासन दिएका छन् । प्रतिनिधिमण्डलले अर्थमन्त्री ज्ञानेन्द्रबहादुर कार्कीलाई पनि ज्ञापनपत्र बुझाएको छ । कार्कीले १ नं. प्रदेशको राजधानी धरानमा राख्ने अभियानप्रति आफ्नो ऐक्यबद्धता रहेको बताएको टोलीले जनाएको छ ।
