A 59-year-old man beat his wife to death at Hetauda Sub-metropolis-4 in Makwanpur district on Friday night. Ram Bahadur Lama, under the influence of alcohol, bludgeoned his wife Mina Lama, 43, to death at their rented apartment in Karra, said police. The suspect beat the victim at her head with a baton. He fled the scene after the crime. The inebriated Ram Bahadur returned home late on Friday evening and beat his wife who was asleep. The couple’s nine-year-old son Sushil slept with his mother when the incident took place. Sushil said that his father also beat him as he cried upon seeing her mother being thrashed. The man forced him to sleep silently. According to Sushil, he called his mother and found her lying unconscious after Ram Bahadur left the room at around 1am. The boy attempted to call the neighbours but the door was locked from outside. “The next door neighbours opened the door as I banged the door in the morning,” said the boy tears welling in his eyes. The boy, with the help of the neighbours, reported the incident to the nearest police post. The victim was found dead when the security personnel reached the incident scene. According to the neighbours, the perpetrator, an auto rickshaw driver, is an alcoholic who often comes home late and beats the family members. The man often beats his daughter Shanti (14) but she had gone to a neighbour’s house on Friday night. Police had arrested Ram Bahadur a month ago on charge of beating his daughter. He was released after two days. Ram Bahadur is the permanent resident of Tistung Palung who has been staying in Hetauda on rent. His relatives said that Mina was his second wife. His first wife left him about 15 years ago as he used to beat her repeatedly. हेटौडा उप–महानगरपालिका वडा नम्बर–४, कर्रामा श्रीमानले श्रीमतीको हत्या गरेको प्रहरीले जनाएको छ । शनिबार बिहानै ४२ वर्षकी मीना लामालाई उनका ६३ वर्षीय श्रीमान रामबहादुर लामाले धारिलो हतियार प्रहार गरी हत्या गरेको प्रहरीले जनाएको छ । हत्या गरेका लामा फरार रहेको प्रहरीले जनाएको छ । ‘घटनाको अवस्था हेर्दा टाउकोमा काटेको देखिएको छ । पति फरार छन’, घटनास्थलमा पुगेका प्रहरी निरीक्षक मधुकुमार थापाले भन्नुभयो, ‘हामी घटनाकाे खोजतलासमा जुटेका छौं ।’ मृतक लामाको दुई सन्तान छन् । स्थानीयबासीका अनुसार लामा दम्पतीको नियमित झगडा पर्ने गर्दथ्यो । त्यसै कारण श्रीमानले श्रीमतीको हत्या गरेको हुन सक्ने प्रहरीले आशङ्का गरेको छ ।
