Protests demanding state capital have spread in Kavre, with the local people taking out a rally in Banepa, demanding that the Kavre town be declared the capital of Province 3.
Various political parties, elected members of federal parliament and provincial assembly, chamber of commerce and industry and other several organisations took part in the protest rally and announced a series of pressure programmes.
Addressing the rally, Chairman of Kavre Chamber of Commerce and Industry Prakash Manandhar said that an all-party meeting decided to intensify the protest, while urging the prime minister and chiefs of major political parties to make clear their position regarding the provincial capital.
The recently elected lawmakers, CPN-UML, Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Centre), Rastriya Janata Party Nepal, Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum-Nepal, chamber of commerce and industry, Federation of Nepali Journalists, Kavre Sewa Samaj and various social organisations attended the Saturday’s rally. They claimed that Kavre is the suitable place for the provincial capital.
Similarly in Dhankuta, the local people continued their agitation, demanding the town be made the state capital. Transportation was disrupted and market places remained closed due to the protest.
The protesters decided to lift transportation strike between 5pm on Saturday and 8am on Sunday.
General strike enforced in Doti demanding Dipayal as the Province 7 capital continued for four consecutive days on Saturday. The market, government offices, non-government organisations and educational institutions remained closed, while vehicles remained off the roads. Demonstrations and protest programmes were held on the initiatives of the struggle committee, and a whistle rally was also organised.
The struggle committee coordinator and President of the Doti Chamber of Commerce and Industry Narendra Khadka said they were forced to resort to protest as their repeated calls to the government to address their demand have fallen on a deaf ear.
He also said they would continue their protest until their demand is met.
