Students, police clash in Jhapa

2018-04-13

A clash broke out between students and police personnel in Damak of Jhapa district on Friday afternoon. The clash ensued after police intervened in the demonstration organised by the students of Damak Multiple Campus to protest the passenger buses refusal to provide service to them. The irate students also vandalised some vehicles. The students took to the streets after the public buses refused to provide them discount on the transportation fare. Earlier on April 5, 2017, Free Students’ Union, transport entrepreneurs and police had reached an agreement to provide 45 percent discount on public transport fares to students. The students took to the streets after the buses (Me 1 Kha 2466, Me 1 Kha 2157, Ba 5 Kha 2149 and Me 1 Kha 5856) refused to provide service to them. They also drew the attention of Deepak Giri, DSP at the Area Police Office, on the issue. After drawing the attention of DSP Giri, the students organised a vehicular strike.
