2018-06-06

Gandaki, Baglung, Baglung

Nepal Student Union (NSU), Baglung staged protests in various parts of the district on Wednesday against the recent hike in the price of petroleum products. Since the appointment of KP Oli as the prime minister of the country, the price of petroleum products has been hiked five times. This was the reason why students accused the Oli government of not working for the welfare of the people and urged the government to reverse the decision. On Tuesday, NSU submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister's Office through the chief district officer. On Wednesday, students affiliated to NSU staged demonstration in front of the District Administration Office (DAO). Manish Thapa, president of the Free Student Union (FSU) of Dhaulagiri Multiple Campus said that they chose to stage the protest in front of the DAO because it is the authorized representative of the government in the district. "It's sad that other student unions are doing nothing against the monopoly of the government," said Thapa. He accused the government of looting the innocent people despite promising to make their lives better. He also warned to intensify the protests if the government failed to address thir demand.
