District-based rights activists have conducted a joint monitoring of the Chamati and adjoining area of Phujel VDC-7.
The team of human rights activists arrived in Phujel on September 20. The team conducted monitoring following the fast-unto-death held by father and mother of Krishna Prasad Adhikari– Nanda Prasad and Ganga Maya.
The monitoring visit was conducted to take steps for repatriation of the displaced Adhikari couple, collect opinions of the locals and observe human rights situation of the district.
The rights activists have said that situation of Phujel was not satisfactory. They commented that wounds of conflict were yet to heal in the area.
Local health worker Ishwori Adhikari said that trends of accusing, doubting each other still existed.
House of Adhikari couple has been covered with bush. Chairperson of Bar Association Chitwan Sthaneshwor Duwadi said that the house had to be renovated for settlement.
The couple had been displaced after local Maoist cadres thrashed the couple over a dispute regarding extension of electricity line on December 25, 2007.
The locals have urged Adhikari couple to return home.
18 rights activists including INSEC representative, Bar Association Gorkha, FNJ Gorkha, Human Rights and Peace Society Gorkha, Amnesty International had conducted the monitoring.
