Students at Janaki Medical College staged demonstration in front of Province 2 Assembly building on Wednesday. The medical students have alleged the province government of remaining indifferent to facilitate for resuming studies at the medical college and hospital which has remained shut for the past two months. Around 500 students residing at the college hostel have been bearing the brunt of the shutdown. And to add to their woes, the college has remained cut off from electricity power line. “There is no electricity, drinking water, food at the college hostel,” said a student taking part in today’s protest, “For how many more days should we stay in hunger? So we came out to protest.” Staffers at the Janaki Medical College had shut down the college and hospital saying the college management had not paid them salary for the past 14 months. As a result, medical students at the college are facing the brunt of the apathy of the college administrators who are out of contact. Meanwhile, Province 2 Internal Affairs and Law Minister Gyanendra Yadav has expressed commitment to facilitate in resolving the issue.
