Doctors at Bharatpur Hospital on Friday staged demonstration expressing solidarity towards the demands of Dr Govinda KC, who has been staging indefinite hunger strike in Jumla since Saturday.
Dr KC is on the seventh day of his 15th hunger strike seeking reforms in country’s medical education sector.
Nepal Medical Association Chitwan chapter had called for the demonstration that began from 10 am this morning for 15 minutes demanding the fulfillment of demands put forth by Dr KC and urging the concerned authorities to save his life.
NMA, Chitwan Secretary Dr Bhojraj Adhikari informed that the doctors at the hospital will continue their protests every day until Dr KC’s demands are addressed.
Likewise, NMA central member Dr Krishna Poudel said that if the demands made by Dr KC are met then it would be in the interest of Nepali people and make the medical sector systematized. He further said that the Medical Education Ordinance Replacement Bill introduced by the government would make the sector unsystematic.
Dr Poudel further warned that the NMA would opt for stern protests if the government failed to act on Dr KC’s demands.
“For now, we are staging protests in a manner that would not affect the treatment of paitents,” said Dr Poudel, “However, if the government does not address the matter in time we will not stay silent.”
