Even as the government prepares to ban tipper lorries plying the Valley roads during daytime, the tipper terror continues unabated. Seventeen-year-old Anuja Ghimire of Chitwan became the latest victim of the menace when the tipper with the number plate Na 7 Kha 9475 hit the Yamaha FZ bike (Ba96Pa4911) she was riding pillion. Anuja died on the way to the hospital whereas her brother Anuj Ghimire(26) sustained injuries in the accident. The tipper, driven by Rajkumar Tamang (30) of Chapagaun, had hit the bike the Ghimire siblings were riding, according to DSP Pradeep Chhetri, in-charge at the Metropolitan Police Circle Kalimati. “The tipper was en route to Kalanki from Chapagaun when it hit the Ghimire siblings as they were heading to their room near the UN Park in Lalitpur,” said DSP Chhetri, adding that they had impounded the truck. After the incident, infuriated locals had shattered glasses of the tipper. According to DSP Chhetri, four tippers were seized on Saturday afternoon taking the total number of tippers booked at the Kalimati Police Circle premises on traffic rule violations to 19 in the last few days. Following the spike in accident cases involving tipper lorries, the Home Ministry had on Wednesday directed Chief District Officers of the three districts in the Valley and the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MPTD) to limit tippers’ movement on the Valley roads during the night from 8pm to 5am. The new restriction on daytime movement of tippers comes into effective on July 16. According to the MPTD, 19 people have been killed in road accidents last month alone in the tipper-related accidents.
