Women in Birtamod took to the streets on Aug 8 demanding strict laws against rape as equal as death penalty to the perpetrators.They put allegations on the local government that they were passive in punishing the perpetrator.In what they called as Symbolic ralley, the demonstrators warned the government of much stronger protest programs in case the perpetrators were released.The ralley went around Mukti Chowk and culminated into corner assembly later. झापासहित देशभर बलात्कारका घटना बढिरहेका बेला बुधबार बिर्तामोडमा महिलाहरुले हिंसाविरुद्ध चर्को नाराबाजी गरेका छन् ।आफ्नै वडा तथा गाउँपालिका, नगरपालिकामा बलात्कारका घटना हुँदा समेत स्थानीय जनप्रतिनिधिले कुनै ठोस कदम नउठाएको भन्दै महिलाहरुले स्थानीय सरकारको चर्को विरोध गरेका हुन् ।उनीहरुले न्यायिक निकायका सदस्यहरुलाई आन्दोलनमा सहभागी हुन समेत आग्रह गरेका छन् ।बलात्कार घटनाका पीडकलाई उन्मुक्ति दिने कोशिस गरीए कडा आन्दोलन गर्ने चेतावनी दिएका महिलाहरुले बुधबारको मौन जुलुसलाई सांकेतिक आन्दोलनको संज्ञा दिएका छन् ।जुलुसले बिर्तामोडको मुक्ति चोकको परिक्रमा गरेको थियो ।बलात्कारीलाई फाँसी को सजाय दिने कानुन बनाउनुपर्ने उनीहरुले माग गरेका छन् ।
