2018-09-17

Locals participated in a mass rally today in Jajarkot and demanded justice for Nirmala Panta, who was raped and murdered on July 26 in Bhimdatta Municipality of Kanchanpur district. Jajarkot Youth Cricket Club initiated the demonstration where thousands of people including local women, children, students among others took to the streets seeking justice for the 13-year-old victim. The rally chanted slogans against the government and demanded resignation of the two-thirds majority leftist government. They also criticised the government of failing to arrest perpetrators after two months of the incident. The rally started from Thati Bazaar and went through various streets before convening into a corner meeting at Khalanga Bazaar, in the district headquarters, this afternoon. The protesters also sought capital punishment for the rapist and demanded resignation of Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for failing to make any significant headway into the case. Local youth leader speaking at the corner meeting said it was unfortunate that the people’s government is failing to book people’s murderer. People from all walks of life across the nation have continuously demonstrated against the government seeking justice for Nirmala Panta.
