2018-09-19

Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal marked Constitution Day as Black Day with protest programmes in Saptari today. “As per the party central committee’s decision, we organised protest programmes to mark September 19 as Black Day,” said RJP-N Saptari Coordinator Ramprit Yadav. RJP-N cadres and leaders put up black flags in public places at Rajbiraj, Hanumannagar, Kankalani, Khadak, Kanchanrup and Shambhunath, among other places. They wore black bands on their heads and hands and protested throughout the day. The rally taken out in Rajbiraj saw the participation of many RJP-N cadres and leaders, including Saptari Coordinator Yadav, province lawmaker Bikki Yadav, Rajbiraj Mayor Shambhu Yadav, and Deputy Mayor Sadhana Jha. The participants warned of an agitation if the constitution was not amended. Province 2 Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Development Jitendra Sonal said the RJP-N had marked Constitution Day as Black Day to register Madhesi people’s dissatisfaction with the constitution. Addressing a protest rally in Shahid Darsan Chowk, Sonal, who is also RJP-N general secretary, said they were observing September 19 as Black Day despite being in the government as the constitution had not been amended nor their demands met. “We shall launch protest from both the Parliament and the street if our demands are not addressed,” he warned. Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal also put up black flags in public places and their cadres wore black bands on their heads and arms in Saptari to protest against Constitution Day. A source said that FSF-N organised the protest in accordance with the decision of Province 2. The government did not organise any programme to celebrate Constitution Day keeping in view the RJP-N’s protest programmes. After Madhes-centric parties urged the public not to participate in any programme organised by the government on Constitution Day, a short programme was organised in the residence of the CDO with the participation of chiefs of security agencies and government offices. On the occasion of Constitution Day, Nepal Communist Party distributed fruits to patients at Gajendra Narayan Singh Sagarmatha Hospital .
