2018-09-30

Members of the Civil Struggle Committee in Kanchanpur staged a sit-in at Madan Chowk of Mahendranagar Bazaar on Saturday, demanding the authorities to make public the report submitted by the high-level probe committee and identify the culprits involved in the rape and murder of 13-year-old Nirmala Pant. The committee has decided to stage a sit-in at Madan Chowk everyday from 9am to 5pm until authorities find the culprits. Over two months have passed since the rape and murder of Nirmala in Bhimdutta Municipality-18, Kanchanpur. Though the government have formed several investigation committees to probe the murder, the authorities still remain clueless about the culprits. On Tuesday, the high-level committee formed to probe the rape and murder of Nirmala submitted its report to the Home Ministry. “It has already been over two months now. The government has neither made public the report nor arrested the culprits,” said Meena Bhandari, coordinator of the Civil Struggle Committee. Purna Bahadur Chand, chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party in Kanchanpur, blamed the government for delaying to take action against the guilty. “It is clear that police handled the investigation carelessly,” said Chand. Padamraj Awasthi, municipal chief of the Nepali Congress in Bhimduttanagar, said all the concerned stakeholders need to cooperate in order to provide justice to Nirmala and her family.
