2018-10-03

Women rights activists seeking justice in the Nirmala rape and murder case today reached the Office of Chief Minister and Council of Ministers of Province 7 to submit a memorandum. A team of women rights activists led by Helen Shrestha reached the Dhangadi-based office to convey their concerns at the delay in investigation. “As 70 days have already passed and the culprit is yet to be booked, we decided to meet the CM for justice,” said Shrestha. Another rights activist Sabitri Subedi criticised Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for his recent remarks suggesting that investigation into the case, like a few other cases, could take years. “How can a person holding the responsible post of prime minister give such irresponsible remarks?” asked Subedi, who also called everyone to join the struggle for justice. Cadres of Nepali Congress-aligned Nepal Student Union were also present at the demonstration in front of the CM’s office, where protesters chanted slogans against the government for trying to protect the culprit. On receiving the memorandum, Chief Minister Trilochan Bhatta said a search for the culprit was on. “Investigation is on, and we’re coordinating with the centre in this regard,” he said.
