Tilathi area in Saptari district remained tense throughout Monday after a security guard at Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality Office died in a gang assault on Sunday evening.

According to police, Shailendra Mukhiya and his group had assaulted Mishra on Sunday evening. Critically injured, he died while being rushed to Biratnagar for treatment.

Mishra was attacked with axe and baton when he confronted Mukhiya and his friends who were reportedly using drugs on the office premises, said Superintendent of Police Rajendra Bista.

The enraged Tialathi residents have demanded that the authorities capture the suspects, provide suitable compensation to the Mishra’s family, school his children and provide job to his wife.

The rural municipality has provided Rs 24,000 to Mishra’s family as an immediate relief and assured to provide compensation by holding a board meeting.
