The police on Friday arrested 18 leaders of Bibeksheel Nepali Party including its Coordinator Ujjwal Thapa who were staging the protest in front of the Federal Parliament building at New Baneshwor.
Leaders of Bibeksheel Nepali Party assembled in front of the Parliament building to protest the government's bid to pass the National Medical Education Bill through the Parliament without incorporating demands raised by Dr Govinda KC. Police arrested the demonstrators saying that they had staged protest in a restricted zone.
Bibeksheel Nepali Party staged the protest to express its solidarity with Dr KC's ongoing hunger strike that entered its 17th day on Friday. "We want the agreements reached between Dr KC and the government be implemented," a leader of the party, Milan Pandey, told Republica Online.
The arrested leaders have been kept at Mahendra Police Club in the capital, according to Pandey.
