Locals staged a demonstration demanding the upgrade of Kaluwapur-Bellauri road section. According to a local, Uttardev Bhatt, they have demanded blacktopped road as well as a sprinkling of water on the roads to reduce dust as the locals have been getting sick due to pollution.
According to Bhatta, they have been blocking the road for 5 hours since two days. The protesters have threatened to impose an indefinite vehicular strike if the road construction does not start on the next day. He also states that he had submitted the memorandum about the situation of the road from the Chief Minister of the Far West to the Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development.
Locals have to travel uncomfortably on the muddy and dusty roads. Due to such road, the passengers have to pay Rs 150 extra fare to travel 27 km.
According to Daman Raj Joshi, representative of the contractor company Santoshi-Thegim JV, the road construction work could not go ahead due to lack of budget. Santoshi-Thegim JV had taken the responsibility of blacktopping the Kaluwapur-Belauri road on 8th September 2016.
According to the agreement, Santoshi-Thegim JV had to complete the construction work by August 31, 2016.The construction company has so far received Rs 4.44 million.
