NSU cadres arrested

Police arrested four students, including Nepali Congress-aligned Nepal Student Union central member Bhanu Dhakal, while they were agitating with the demand seeking the release of students arrested four days ago for torching a government vehicle.

Besides Dhakal, Nepal Student Union leaders Govind Nepali, Bidhan Lamichhane and Sagar Sapkota were arrested after they organised a chakkajam near the Nepali Congress party office in Chipledhunga and took under control the vehicles of the chief minister of the province and the district court. They have been kept in the custody of district police.

Kaski police has clarified that the students were arrested for obstructing the road and taking control of government vehicles.

Earlier, on Saturday, students affiliated to NSU had impounded a vehicle belonging to Pokhara metropolis and torched it citing its use during the weekend. Police had arrested five NSU leaders in connection with the incident.

Of those held, Rajendra Baral and Laxmi Poudel have been released. The others — Parashuram Basnet, Difan Bhujel and Binaya Poudel — are still in police custody.
