In the latest incidents of unchecked sexual violence in Saptari district, two women were raped in Rupani and Kanchanrup on Friday and Saturday.
Police on Sunday arrested Devendra Yadav from Rupani Rural Municipality-1 on the charge of raping a 30-year-old local woman. The suspect had allegedly barged into the victim’s house on Saturday night.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhawesh Rimal said Yadav was detained for investigation immediately after the woman lodged a complaint. The victim, a mother of three children, claimed that the perpetrator had raped her in the past as well but she could not press charges against him due to his threats. The woman’s husband works in a foreign country. Investigation into the case is ongoing after the Saptari District Court remanded him in custody, said Rimal.
