Dalit woman beaten by ward chairperson

After Jitendra Ram and Anju Ray, residents of Barahathawa Municipality-17 eloped, the ward chairperson Ram Bishwas Ray and the girl's father Abhinandan Ray beat the boy's mother and attempted to rape her. 

After the incident, the boy's father is out of contact. On 22nd February, the girl's father Abhinandan Ray and the ward chairperson Ram Bishwas Ray assaulted and attempted to rape Dhaneshworidevi Ram by locking her in the house.

Jitendra Ram and Anju Ray are contactless since February 22. According to Dhaneshworidevi, the ward chairperson and Abhinandan Ray took her to Abhinandan's house saying that they have some work with her and they assaulted her. She said that they also tried to rape her.

She said when she screamed out for help, a few people informed the police and she managed to survive. After her son eloped with the girl, her husband got a threatening call because of which he absconded. 

After Dhaneshworidevi wrote a letter to the  National Dalit Society Welfare Association appealing for the justice, Dalit activist Rajesh Paswan registered a complaint in District Police Office Sarlahi on Monday. The Sub-Inspector Ranjit Pandey said that justice will be done as per the law. 

Radheshyam Paswan, District Director of United Dalit Struggle Committee and member of National Dalit Commission, said that the ward chairperson and the girl's father will be punished.
