A woman in Biratnagar has been beaten by her family for requesting them to register her marriage and birth of her daughter. Devika Kandel Ghimire of Biratnagar metropolitan city-1 was physically assaulted by her husband Khagendra Ghimire and sister-in-law Homa Ghimire Sunday. Police arrested them after neighbors reported the police about the incident. They were both released on Monday under pressure from Nepali Congress provincial assembly member Shanta Poudel and other congress leaders. Inspector Jamuna Basnet of District Police Office Morang's Women and Children service center said police released them after both parties agreed to reconcile following day long meeting on Monday. Homa is a former central committee member of Nepali Congress youth wing Tarun Dal.
