Province 1, Udayapur, Triyuga
Local traders today staged chakkajam in Gaighat Bazaar area protesting the unnecessary delay in road expansion work in Udayapur.
Local traders accused the contractor of delaying the expansion and black-topping work of the road from Triyuga River to the Main chowk along the Gaighat-Diktel road section. They said the contractors did not heed their request and extended the deadline of the project time and again. The traders further warned they would shut the market and bring transportation service to a complete halt if the contractor did not start work immediately.
Senior Vice-chair of Triyuga Chambers of Commerce Umesh BK said the traders were compelled to hit the streets after it became impossible for them to run their business in the area due to dust and pollution caused by the delay in blacktopping the road. BK added the dust had also affected public health adversely in the area.
The contractors had promised to complete the expansion work of the 500-metre road in the bazaar area within 2018.
