Work has been stalled in Birgunj municipality for eight days due to staff agitation. As many as 500 employees working under all sections of the local level, except the fire department, are protesting since March 3.
The agitating workers have demanded that the local level permanent employees should be treated as civil servants in regards to promotion, that staffs under contract and wage employment should be guaranteed employment, and that recruitment should be made based on hierarchy.
Due to the agitation from staffs in the municipality since one week, the administrative functioning, the planning of development works and the customer service has been severely affected.
