Gandaki, Kaski, Pokhara Lekhnath

A clash broke out between students and police personnel when the latter tried to intervene in the demonstration staged by students against the Supreme Court order allowing 344 students to sit for the exam of Pokhara University.

Student Mukesh Mehata was injured in the clash. Police had intervened when agitating students were trying to lock all offices of the central campus. The protest was organised by Nepal Students Union and All Nepal Independent Students Union (Revolutionary).

The students were agitated as the SC issued a diktat to the university to permit admitted students with D plus grade to sit for the exam in the management course despite the provision that students should have acquired Grade C to be eligible for enrolment at the Bachelor level in management stream at the varsity. The exam has been postponed thrice due to dispute over the grade.

NSU leader Firoj Subedi said they had launched the agitation with the demand that students enrolled without the required grade not be allowed to sit for the exam and punishment for 42 constituent campuses.

Earlier, a meeting of the academic council and executive council of the varsity had decided not to permit students with D plus grade to sit for the exam. The dispute later reached the SC. Student Mandip Khadka had moved to the court making the varsity the defendant.

Supreme Court Judge Biswombhar Prasad Shrestha had issued a verdict not to deprive students from taking the exam.

The university is all set to conduct exams of four streams from tomorrow.

Pokhara University Registrar Govinda Sharma said that exam committee had decided to permit students with D plus grade to take the exam to implement the court decision.
