Nisha Upadhyay Tiwari’s parents today alleged that she was murdered by her family and hanged.

Tiwari, 22, was married to Bibek Tiwari, 24, of Chandihagaun in Rajdevi Municipality.

Tiwari was found hanging from the ceiling at her home yesterday.

Tiwari’s elder brother Dilip Upadhyay charged that Tiwari’s family members had tortured her to death over the issue of dowry.

Tiwari of Madanpur, Gadhimai Municipality, was married to Bibek three years ago. Her relatives said they had provided Rs eight lakh in cash, a motorcycle, a TV and a shelf, among other items, as dowry to Bibek. But, he had been tormenting Nisha for not bringing a cot in dowry.

Nisha’s sister-in-law Rekha said Nisha had shared about the physical and mental torture meted to her by Bibek. “I had asked her not to disclose the issue as it might cause negative impact upon her family,” Rekha said.

Neighbours had reported to the police when they saw Nisha hanging from the ceiling at her home.

Her mother Parbati Devi charged that her son-in-law Bibek had killed her daughter in collaboration with other family members. She demanded stern action against the guilty.

Post-mortem on Tiwari’s body was conducted at District Hospital Rautahat and the body was handed over to family members, said SP Bhupendra Bahadur Khatri.

“The facts will be known after the post-mortem report,” said SP Khatri.
