9 different Identity based organizations organized a demonstration in Kathmandu on Thursday demanding Sudurpaschim, Karnali and Gandaki provinces to be renamed. They carried out a demonstration from Maitighar to New Baneshwor demanding the provinces to be given names that reflects the identity of the indigenous people living there. 

The protestors also demanded a stop to the encroachment of land belonging to locals Newars of Kathmandu, attacks on language and culture of the local people amongst others.
