2019-07-16

Bagmati, Bhaktapur, Madhyapur Thimi

The professors at the Sanothimi Multiple Campus in Bhaktapur has started agitation accusing the campus chief of irregularities. The professors have demanded the resignation of campus chief Ram Chandra Ghimire.

The Progressive Professors Association of Nepal associated with ex- CPN(UML) and the National Association of Professors associated with ex- CPN(Maoist) are preparing to ban the campus chief from entering the campus from July 17. As a form of protest, most of the department heads of the campus resigned on July 16.  The professor is alleged to have brought the campus to a state of economic fragility by frivolously spending a whopping 70 million rupees collected during the time of the previous campus chief.

In addition to allegation of corruption, they alleged that Ghimire bought mobile phones worth more than 100 thousand rupees and that Ghimire used the examination fee for this personal benefit. Campus Chief, however, denied such allegations and accused the professorial organizations of showing frustrations of not being able to be dominant in the campus. "The account still has now Rs. 10 million. I have bought a standard mobile to watch the CC camera connected to the campus," he said. The regular classes and other activities have been impacted due to the factionalism in the campus.
