Students affiliated to various student organisations indulged in vandalism and arson at Birgunj-based Thakurram Multiple Campus today.

Citing various problems, including poor teaching-learning environment, unmanaged library and corruption in  developing physical infrastructure and change in exam schedules, students affiliated to Socialist Student Union, National Student Association and Nepal Student Association launched an agitation outside the campus from early morning today.

Though there had been talks between the agitating students and the campus administration, it ended inconclusively, prompting angry students to resort to vandalism and arson. Socialist Student Union Thakuram Multiple Campus Unit Vice-chair Shashikanta Sarraf accused the campus administration of playing with the future of students, and said, “Though teaching-learning activities have been ineffective, the campus administration had become a mute spectator.”

Further, Sarraf also vented ire on the campus administration for shifting the exam centres elsewhere without holding any discussion with student unions.

“There is massive irregularity in the college, teachers frequently remain absent, classes aren’t regular. How can students take exam amidst this condition?” he asked.

Further, Sarraf also informed that all sections of the campus administration would be padlocked and clarified that the lockout would not end until the administration fulfilled students’ demands.
