Peoples with disabilities have picketed the office of the National Federation of People with Disabilities demanding employment. Two dozen wheelchair users picketed province office and also staged a sit-in on Friday afternoon.
They surrounded the office premises from 1 pm to 3 pm. They have staged a sit-in at various agencies demanding employment after they were not allowed to bring the product from Jogbani and sell it to Biratnagar.
While giving information on the issue, Sanjay Thapa Magar of Jatwa-14, Biratnagar, said that they should provide employment according to their physical ability. Stating the financial problem in the family due to lack of employment, he said that they are forced to do so due to lack of hearing although they have asked for several time for help.
On June 3 memorandum have been submitted to Ministry of Social Development and Biratnagar Municipal Corporation by staging a sit-in.
Bimal Basnet, a program officer of the National Disability Federation of Nepal (UNFPA), said that people with different abilities had to face problems as the concerned bodies are not serious, even there are the rules for them.
Regarding the rights of persons with disabilities, the Act 2074 provides for the employment of persons with disabilities on the basis of their physical ability.
