An e-rickshaw driver was critically injured when a traffic sub-inspector thrashed him in Birgunj this evening.
E-rickshaw driver Santosh Patel, 25, was critically injured when Sub-inspector Suresh Yadav thrashed him.
On duty Yadav had hit Patel with his walkie-talkie and his right ear was bleeding. Patel has been admitted to Vayodhya Hospital for treatment.
As the aerial of the walkie-talkie had entered the right ear, it started bleeding, said Patel’s younger brother Bikesh Patel. Doctors have advised to keep Patel in the hospital for a few days.
Patel said that Sub-inspector Yadav had thrashed him with his walkie-talkie while he was helping a passenger to board the rickshaw at Ghantaghar Chowk. Protesting the incident, e-rickshaw and tempo drivers staged a chakkajam in Ghantaghar of Birgunj today.
After the protest, traffic Inspector Raj Kumar Singh held talks with agitators.
Protesting e-rickshaw riders and tempo drivers resumed their service after Inspector Singh agreed to bear all the expenses for Patel’s treatment and assured taking departmental action against sub-Inspector Yadav.
