Dhankuta/December 17 Teachers of Dhankuta Multiple Campus have beaten and smeared black in the face of campus chief Dr. Gopal Bahadur Bhattarai, 58, on December 17. Police have arrested three teachers in connection with the incident today. Nanda Neupane, Shambhu Khatiwada and Kiran Ghimire were arrested on charge of beating up and mistreating Bhattarai at Bakhekhola in Dhankuta Municipality-3 while he was travelling to Butwal to attend the 2-day meeting of campus chiefs of Tribhuwan University affiliated campuses. Wife of Bhattarai, Heema Devi Basnet Bhattarai had filed a complaint at the District Police Office demanding action against those mistreating Bhattarai. She has urged human rights activists to take steps to find his whereabouts saying that he is out of contact after the incident. The police office said that the accused were arrested from Dhankuta bazaar. According to police, Bhattarai was in touch with the Area Police Office in Dharan. Teachers aligned with progressive groups had expressed dissent over the recruitment of 13 temporary teachers in the campus on December 11.
