Correspondent at Jagaran FM Nanda Kathayat was attacked by security officers in Surkhet on April 6. Surkhet district lies in Karnali Province of Nepal.
According to FF's representative Laxmi Bhandari, on-duty officers attacked reporter Kathayat for defying lockdown. He was heading towards his workstation to read the news.
Even after showing his identity card, police officers pushed and kicked him, informed Bhandari.
Freedom Forum is concerned over the incident as it is violation of press freedom. At this time when free flow of information is important to make public informed about Covid-19 pandemic updates, security officials behavior towards media person bars those from performing their duty. Hence, FF strongly urges the concerned authority to differentiate among general public and media persons and ensure safe atmosphere for journalists.
