Woman Assaulted after Son Marries Inter-caste Girl

Dhiraja Tamata, 40, of Baganiya in Baliya VDC-5 has been beaten up by Uday Singh Rawat, 42, and Tikram Dhami, 30, on March 13 after the former's son married with an girl belonging to a non-dalit community. Injured Tamata is undergoing treatment at Seti Zonal Hospital in Dhangadhi. Radha Krishna Chaudhary, Senior Assistant Health Worker at the hospital said that Tamata sustained injury to her ear. Her son Basanta Tamata, 22, had married local Mamata Rawat, 20, on February 8. Father and maternal uncle of the girl assaulted her threatening to present her son before them. Dhiraja complained of police not taking the incident seriously despite her complaint. Mamata is a bachelor level student while her son works as a laborer in India. According to the victim, the villagers had attacked her when she tried to reach police to save herself. Husband of Dhiraja also works in India as laborer. Inspector Rajesh Karki of the Area Police Office Lamki said that father of the girl has been arrested.
