Locals have obstructed the expansion of the Gelung Khola Hydropower(3.3MW) high-tension line in the Jugal Rural Municipality. Disputes erupted when poles were erected to extend the high-tension line from the powerhouse to the Chautara Sangachokgadhi Municipality 2, Batase substation. According to Gelung Hydro Pvt. Ltd. Manager Ramkumar Rai, locals uprooted 8 poles and wires buried in the Batase substation on Wednesday night.
The project is in the final stage after 7 years and with only a month left to be connected with the National transmission line, the project has come to a halt. He said that the government compensated every family affected by the transmission poles but the locals have removed the poles 3 times. The administration and the Police were informed about 14 locals involved in uprooting the connection lines. Rai claims that they are unable to fulfil all the demands of the locals as the demands are out of the directive process of the Electricity Authority. The 14 local homeowners have blamed the government for doing what it pleases without consultation with the locals and building risky extension poles while expanding the lines from powerhouse to the substation to connect to the National Transmission lines.
