Locals of Rukum West, Triveni Rural Municipality, on August 11 assaulted Accountant Hemant Prakash KC and Accounting Assistant Subash KC while they were returning from work at Lamakhet, Ward-4 for misusing rural municipality's budget.
The assailants kicked, punched, and beat the duo with iron rods and threatened to kill them and burn down their houses.
Accountant Hemant had transferred a total of 2.5 million rupees from the 2019/2020 budget to his, his wife's, and nephew's bank account. But when an investigation was underway he returned the money to the rural municipality's account.
According to KC, a group of youths of Ward-5 including Bhimbahadur Pun, Nirajan Pun, Khakendra Mahar, and others assaulted them and absconded.
Police are searching for those involved in the assault and district administration is investigating the incident.
