Police misbehaves with journalist in Kanchanpur

Police have mistreated a journalist in Kanchanpur. DB Bohara, a journalist working for Abhiyan Daily published from Mahendranagar, was mistreated by the on-duty police while he was going to the printing press on Wednesday night.

Bohara said that the police verbally abused and misbehaved with him. "It was 12 o'clock at night. I was going to the printing press to print newspapers. Bohra said that when he showed his identity card, the police called him a fake journalist.

He has demanded action against the police for abusing him. According to the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, the on-duty police conducted a general interrogation after seeing him walking in the market late at night. He said that Bohara was not mistreated on the basis of being a journalist but the problem was due to misunderstanding.

Meanwhile, the Kanchanpur branch of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has said that it has drawn serious attention to the incident of mistreatment of journalist Bohara by the police.

Secretary of the Kanchanpur branch Amar Bahadur Chand said in a statement that the incident of mistreatment of Bohara had demoralized and insulted the journalists who were deployed day and night to inform the general public even in the midst of the Corona epidemic.

The federation has demanded an impartial investigation into the incident and bringing the culprit to justice.
