The local struggle committee formed by locals affected by the pollution caused by Maruti Cement Industry, Siraha, have picketed in front of the entrance gate on Monday morning. Hundreds of locals gathered and demonstrated with the slogans like “Return the public land, stop the pollution, give priority to locals in employment”.
Maruti Cement Industry has encroached more than three and a half bighas of public forest land in Golbazar Municipality and Naraha Rural Municipality. The surrounding settlements are at risk due to the polluted smoke that comes out from the cement industry.
The poisonous water flowing in Ghurmi River by Sarada Distillery in the premises of Maruti Cement Industry has also caused various problems in the health of the locals and serious damage to food crops.
