Residents of Khokana staged a protest on Friday citing that the Nepal Army was about to build bridge on their land without informing them. The Nepal Armay is planning to build a bridge over Bagmati river in Khokana as a part of the fast track project. The locals of Khokana have been staging protests and demonstrations time and again against the construction of a fast track linking Kathmandu with Tarai, citing historical and religious reasons.
The locals in the area have been expressing dissatisfaction with this project as the government has neither provided them with sufficient compensation for their land nor sought the participation of the locals in the road project.
The locals fear that their traditions and cultures could be uprooted due to unplanned development activities.
