2020-09-30

Tahira Darji, a 45-year-old tailor of Nanandai village in Nepalgunj-17 staged a sit-in at the District Administration Office, Banke on Wednesday, 30th of September after the police failed to search for her 20-year-old daughter who has been missing since 10th of September.

Tahira lodged a complaint against two youths of the village with the police for human trafficking and rape. Similarly, Vidya Wari of Surjigaun in Nepalgunj-19 found out that her 7-year-old daughter had been abused by her neighbour Ram Kumar Kalwar for two months. At first, she did not dare to tell anyone for fear of losing the dignity of her daughter and the family. But again when on August 18, Ram Kumar Kalwar's son Nanda Kalwar tried to abuse her daughter, she reached the District Police Office, Banke on August 24 demanding action against Ram Kumar.

They accused police for being reluctant to register the missing person even after filing a complaint and for not arresting the suspects reprimanding it as a false allegation in the respective cases. Madhesi and Muslim women, who did not get justice from the police, reached the administration on Wednesday carrying banners in their hands.
