Locals picket ward office accusing ward chairperson of corruption

Locals of Rautahat area no. 2, Rajpur Municipality Ward No. 7, in the leadership of Anti-Corruption Struggle Committee surrounded the ward office and chanted slogans against Akolwa’s Ward Chairman, Sheikh Intazul Haque on 1st October. He is accused of corruption and squandering the ward budget in the name of development and embezzling crores of rupees in the name of coronavirus in collaboration with Mayor Sakil Akhtar and the ward secretary.

Hundreds of locals accused and surrounded the office of the ward chairperson for running the ward budget on his own since he was elected, working from the district headquarter Gaur instead of staying at the ward office, withdrawing money by paving the road on papers only, poor quality of paved roads in some places, irregularities in distribution of allowances including elderly and children, withdrawing 2 million rupees in the name of social development without conducting various public awareness training seminars, not distributing the money allocated from the government for poor locals affected by Covid-19 and embezzling the money for the construction of the temple.

Locals warned to stage a phased agitation against the corruption of ward chairperson if the expenditure details are not made public within the next few days. Meanwhile, ward chairperson claimed that he has not embezzled a single rupee and has assured to make public the cost of all the development works done by him within the next two to three days.
