Rajviraj – On Sunday evening, 4th of October, Ranjan Devi Jha, 28, of Saptakoshi Municipality-4, Balardaha lodged a complaint of domestic violence against her husband Narayan and mother-in-law Bidotamadevi at Fatehpur police post. Rajan Devi was repeatedly being tortured and beaten her to death for giving birth to three daughters who now are 6, 4 and a half and 2 years old.
She lost her first child when the husband pushed her after finding out she had a daughter in her womb. She was almost killed after being hit by an axe for giving birth to a girl for the third time. On September 30 at around 10 pm her mother-in-law and husband dropped her from the bed and beat her blindly .Again, while cooking that night, her husband again beat her to death with a ladle and an iron rod. She was further subjected to daily death threats. When she was about to come to the district police, the husband did not allow her eldest daughter to come with her. She is afraid that the anger will be poured out on her ignorant daughter.
At local police station, after several complaints, perpetrators were usually called for panchayat and the case was used to be managed with reconciliation papers, this made the victim more vulnerable. She is now at the Women and Children Service Center with her two daughters.
