Mamata Devi Yadav of Bhotia Tol of Lahan Municipality-13, Siraha has started a hunger strike from October 2 at Shahid Chowk demanding justice for being assaulted by ward chairperson.

She accused that she was beaten on June 21 by the ward chairman of Sukhipur Municipality-4 Ram Lobhit Yadav and his relatives and has not received any compensation so far. He had beaten her when she did not follow his instructions by talking with the person who had quarrelled with the chairman. The victim has also lodged a complaint on October 5 against five persons including Ward Chairman Yadav for beating her.

Even after three and half months have passed since the incident no action has been taken against those who had beaten her and no response was given even when she was on the sit-in which pushed her to go on a hunger strike demanding for the justice. The beating had caused severe injuries to various parts of the body including the hip bone and she was treated after spending more than one lakh rupees at Virat Nursing Home in Biratnagar as treatment was not possible in Lahan.

However, Yadav claims the allegations as false and also claim that he paid Rs.60,000 for the treatment. Navin Yadav, one of the accused, is under the control of the police after the victim's complaint but the rest are absconding.
